Weekend Surprise Part 2 of 3: The Fulfillment

I went to church after almost a whole-day sleep. That was the first thing I thought of when I woke up - I need to go to church and pray for forgiveness about Saturday's craziness.

I was not even a minute late for the mass, but I was not able to find a seat for myself. There were a lot in the back rows but I wanted to sit in front to listen to the homily. I could not understand a word the rev says whenever I sit at the back, that's so I swore never to sit at the back ever. I endured standing for an hour near the altar.

The homily was about the fulfillment of one's self by following the commands of God. The rev started his homily by reciting some pickup lines:

  • Peanut ka ba? Kasi peanut-tibok mo ang puso ko.
  • Isda ka ba? Mangingisda kasi akong bibingwit sa puso mo.

He thought that pickup lines are modern ways of getting the youth's attention. True enough, he got the attention of the listening Catholics, including I. The rev said that God always wants our attention at times we least expect, most of the time. When we are busy, that is the time God wants us to listen to Him, and follow Him. When we are not busy, that is the time we do not hear of Him. Sad irony, but that is the way it is. But simplifying all God's commands, it all boils down to humanity and ethics. There is no complication whatsoever. It is just our minds that complicate such commands, thinking it is way above standard to be followed through and through. Even without God, the concepts of humanity and ethics are still there.

The most important thing the homily has taught me is the fulfillment you can achieve by influencing other people to do good. By helping other people to change, we also change ourselves for the better. That fulfillment of knowing you have changed a lot of lives is forever a blessing from above. Fulfillment is a sense of being not everyone can achieve. And by following God and respecting others, we surely can achieve the sense of fulfillment.

After the mass, I lit a yellow candle and prayed ultimately for a kind and pure heart.
